Shelley Smith

Shelley Smith was born July 12th, 1943 to Shelley Smith and Lucille Diggs in Columbus, Ohio.

He attended West High School of Columbus and later joined the US Army where he honorably served his county.

Shelley enjoyed jazz and spending time with his family and friends. Most of all he loved football. He was a diehard Pittsburgh Steelers fan! He loved a good chess match and would challenge the best of them to a dual. It was guaranteed that he was going to win and always made it look easy.

He cherished his family and would make drives to Ironton, Ohio annually to place flowers on his mothers grave and visit his family.

If you were a friend to him you were considered family as well. He always made everyone feel very special and included.

He had friends for over 50 plus years that he stayed in contact with on a weekly basis while devoting his life to his family.

Shelley was a devoted husband of 40 plus years caretaker for many years and he would not have had it any other. He loved his children and grandchildren and was affectionately known as "GPA". He got a kick out of that name.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife Linda of 40 plus years; sons, Anthony "tony" Smith, Brian (Claudia) Perry; daughter, Shannon (Brandon) Rutledge; seven grandchildren, Brendon, Braylon, Brooklyn, Gavin, Marley, Kayla and Jack; nieces and nephews, as well as a host of loving additional family and friends; and grand puppy, Prince. We will miss his gentle spirit. To know him was to love him.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 17th, 2024 from 10:00am to 11:00 am with a Funeral Service immediately following at The Lord Jesus Christ Church, 634 Gibbard Ave, Columbus, Ohio 43201. Burial will process to Union Cemetery, Columbus, Ohio.
