Shirley Carter Little

Shirley Jones Little, age 84, of 1425 Yorkland Road was born on February 8, 1936, in Newark, NJ, to the late Mary Jones (Johnnie Dunning/stepfather, whom raised her) and James Jones. She entered eternal peace on June 16, 2020, after a long-term illness in Columbus, Ohio, with her family by her side. In Feb 1956, Shirley married Wilbert T Little. To that union four sons were added to the family: Ronald, Glenn, Keith and Jeffrey. Shirley was a mother to more than her sons. She also helped raise her youngest brother, Michael and grandchildren. In the 1950s and the early the 60s, Shirley worked as a maid. She went on to earn a diploma in nursing in Newark NJ, advancing her education in geriatrics care. She worked for multiple health systems in Columbus, Ohio after earning her nursing degree from Columbus State. She was introduced to the Eastern Stars by Henrietta Patrick, joining the Chapter of Columbus, Ohio. She loved reading and writing poetry, music and dancing. She also enjoyed world traveling and just enjoying laughter and family. She often spoke of her great times with her youthful family “partners in crime”, Asalee Little-Friday and James “aka” Walt Patrick, Ollie Mae Diggs, Shirley Mae Jones and sister Jeanette. She loved her siblings and grandchildren with all her heart but did not tolerate foolishness. Shirley is preceded in death by her parents; and sister Ethel Jones. She leaves behind to cherish her memories: her children, Ronald (Wanda), Glenn, Keith & Jeffrey; siblings, Johnnie, Jeanette & Michael Dunning; grandchildren, Laquisa, Lashana, Lundi, Imani, Marikit, Markey, Martinee, Shamar & Kimberly Little; a multitude of great & great-great-grands, Torie Richardson, Mattheu Mayes, Phoenix Jones, Javanah Marie Williams, Steven, Alexandria, Nasara, Victoria and Nevaeh; her nieces, Patricia Butler, Marsha, Carolyn and Wanda Little; and a host of cousins, nephews, and extended family, who all made a point to be by her side when needed.
