Shirley Lashawn Eiland was born on January 7, 1965 in Auburn, Alabama, where she was a baptized member of the A.M.E. Zion Church. She attended Auburn High School and was a member of the HOSA Club (Health Occupations Students of America). In 1991, Shirley or “Shawn” as she was affectionately known, relocated to Columbus, Ohio. A mother of ten, Shawn was a stay-at-home mom and homemaker with an interest and talent for clothing design. She attended her neighborhood church, Linden United Methodist Community Church, along with her family. Shirley departed this life on Thursday, July 29, 2010 at The Ohio State Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her sisters Sarah Lou Brown and Geraldine Gary-Grimmett, grandmother Sarah Lou Willis-Jenkins, uncles Willie and Arthur Willis, mother-in-law Louise Eiland, and sister-in-law Barbara Smith. She leaves to cherish her memory, husband Jackie Eiland, Sr.; four sons, Jackie Jr., Mackie, Zachary, and Louis; six daughters, Ava, Teala, Shakeya, Janeisha, Sonya, and Lajayia; mother Gladys Willis-Gary; father Charles Brown; brothers Jimmy Willis and Greggory Brown; sisters, Patricia Willis, Veronica Willis, Barbara Willis, and Tonya Brown; a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, other loving relatives and countless friends.
