Shirley Mae Potter

October 12, 1933 — September 30, 2020

Shirley M. Potter: a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother went home to be with the lord on Wednesday, September 30, 2020 at her residence. She was born in Manchester, KY and moved to Columbus, Ohio in 1952 with her adoring husband, Garnett Potter. Mrs. Potter attended Lincoln Institute of Kentucky and spent many years in the retail industry and especially, enjoyed her tenure at Vintage Jewels. Shirley loved the Lord and read her bible from beginning to end many times and faithfully, attended Friendship Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by loving husband, Garnett Potter, Sr. and her parents Stella and Adam Clark, sisters Blanche (Elmer) McKee and Marie (Henry) Barnes, and brother Clarence Clark. Special cousins Eugene Gilbert, Robert (Eva) Gilbert, Leona Birch and Gladys Owens and Nellie (Jack) Carter, Sister-in-laws, Sophia (Irvin) Sharp, Dorothy (Roy) Miller and Vicie (Alvin) Combs. Brother-in-laws, Pearl (Louvenia) Clark, John Potter, Arthur Potter, Elmer (Blanche) McKee and Henry (Marie) Barnes. Long-time close friends and neighbors, Samuel Freeman, Sr., and Ida M. Freeman. Shirley also leaves to cherish her memory are her children, Theresa E. Potter and Garnett Potter, Jr., grandchildren Lance (Tanesha) Owens, Garnett Anthony Potter, Jordan Arthur Potter, and Briunna Robinson, great grandchildren Brayden Rogers, Jayce Roosevelt Potter and Larissa Owens. Brother-in-law William (Evangeline) Potter and Roy C. Miller, and special daughter Adrienne M. Freeman, as well as cousins Jo (James) Walker and Jennings (Patricia) Gilbert, and nephews Preston (Shirley) McKee and James McKee. She will be missed by her nephews, nieces and extended family, and many friends. She was an avid music lover and especially, rhythm, blues, and gospel.
