Shurman Ballenger entered this life as the son of Daniel and Marie Ballenger of Spartanburg, South Carolina on September 4, 1950. He moved to Columbus, Ohio at the age 6 years old, where he attended East High School and The Columbus College of Art and Design. Shurman was loyal and devoted to his family and friends, always willing to help those in need. He was known for his kindness, cheerfulness and beautiful smile, and his art work throughout Ohio. His passion for art began at an early age. He was never without his pencil and paper no matter where he was. He was known to the Columbus area as (“Artman”) the man with the majestic hands. Although Shurman never married, he was faithful and loyal to his family, always willing to support and give whatever was needed to those he loved. Shurman loved art and he drew his history on his paintings. His paintings revealed his heart and soul to the world. Shurman accepted the Lord, Jesus Christ as his personal savior in 1999. He joined Miracle Cathedral in 2011. On Wednesday, January 11, 2012, Shurman departed this earthly life at his residence. His mother, Marie, preceded him in death. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving father, Daniel Ballenger Sr., of Canal Winchester, a brother Daniel Ballenger, Jr. (Eucile) of Raleigh, North Carolina, two sisters Barbara (Calvin) Scales and Mildred Ballenger of Blacklick, Ohio; nephew Corey Ballenger of Pickerington, Ohio; nieces Chenise Crump of Morrisville, North Carolina and Camika (Steve) Jones of Blacklick, Ohio; 4 great nephews, Darius, Kendell, Evan and Corey Jr. (CJ) and 4 great nieces, Taylor, Teya, Amara and Courtney. In addition to his special friends at the Commons at Grant, he leaves to cherish his memory a host of other relatives and friends. A special thanks to Bishop Jerry Pierce who came into his life when he needed it most.
