Sonnetta Hafeesa Sturkey

Sonnetta Hafeesa Shahid-Sturkey made her transition from this life on June 26, 2019 after a long hard fought battle. Sonnetta came into the world on August the 11, 1961; the only child of Carolyn Gilcrest and Lester Gore and the first grandchild of the family. After completing her primary education and graduating from South High School, Sonnetta attended Ohio Wesleyan University and in 1983 graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree. Sonnetta also met her husband while attending Ohio Wesleyan, a union that lasted 38 years. Sonnetta began her professional career with Bank One and after several years in banking Sonnetta began working for the State of Ohio. Sonnetta worked with various state agencies and completed 30 years of service in 2015 after serving two directors as Chief of Staff. Sonnetta created Campbell-Hairston LLC in 2015 and continued to work until shortly before her passing. Sonnetta is preceded in death by her sister, Evonne Shahid, but leaves to celebrate life; her husband, Daniel Sturkey; grandmother, Gustava Biggs; mother, C. Najiyyah Shahid; father, Lester Gore; sisters, Yvette Shahid and Zarinah Shahid; brothers, Anthony Shahid and Charles (Monica) Shahid. Sonnetta also leaves nieces, nephews and numerous cousins to remember her legacy.
