Ssg Robert Stewart Sr

SSG Robert Lee Stewart, Sr., USA Ret., age 84, born July 25, 1927 in Columbus, Ohio, went home to the Lord, Sunday, September 18, 2011. Affectionately known as “Bob” or “Sgt.,” he was a member of Trinity Baptist Church and was baptized on July 19, 1939. A veteran of the World War II Era, Korean Conflict Era, Vietnam Era and peacetime, SSG Stewart served in the Air Force from October 1945 to 1948, the Army National Guard from January 1952 to October 1952, and the Army from March 1953 to March 1969. Having served in Italy, Germany, France, Japan, and Korea, he was the recipient of numerous awards and accommodations, and a lifetime member of VFW Post 3764, Retired Armed Forces Association (RAFA), and the Just Us Jazz Club. Bob retired from Mark VX Club, U.S. Army, Columbus Board of Education and Big Brothers/Big Sisters. Preceded in death by parents Luther Stewart, Sr. and Katie Stewart, sister Ann Lou Stewart, brothers John D. Stewart and Luther H. Stewart, Jr., and son-in-law George Slate. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 50 years, Jacqueline L. Stewart; children, Richard (Cecelia) Tanner, Marcialene Slate, Robert L. Stewart, Jr., Doris Stewart, Christopher (Angie) Stewart of Brandon, Florida, Stephanie Stewart, and Vincent (Jackie) Stewart; sister Lula M. Bowman; sister-in-law Elista “Bobbie” Stewart; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, other relatives, friends, and neighbors. Homegoing Celebration 12 noon, Friday, September 23, 2011 at Trinity Baptist Church, 461 St. Clair Avenue, where family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the start of service.
