Sylvia Colleen Harris was born October 4, 1951, in Franklin, West Virginia to Velma Clifford and Calvin Gardiner. On even the dimmest days, she would light up a room with the bright colors she loved to wear. She served 9 years in the United States Army. She was a mentor in the community, working as a Vista Volunteer at the Southside Settlement House, volunteering 7 years for the West Mound Stars football team. She was not just a loving sister, mother and grandmother to her own children, but she was Nana and mother to many others that had the honor of knowing and loving her, and she will be truly missed. Sylvia departed this life on Monday, July 18, 2011 in her home. She was preceded in death by her mother, Velma Clifford; father, Calvin Gardiner; granddaughter, Shakina Hall; brother, Gregory Gardiner and best friend, Bet Jean. She leaves to cherish her memory, her step father, James Clifford; brothers, James Clifford (Marilyn), Robert Clifford, Michael Gardiner, Kent Gardiner and Stacy Gardiner; sisters, Karen Clifford, Ruth Lynch and Monica Scott; sister friend, Sharon Allen; children, Manica Reynolds (Mark), Topeka Searcy (Antonio), Carl Phillip Clifford (Trish) and Jahlyia Harris; grandchildren, Mark, Sharekia, Diamonique, Darriel, Jyahia, Tysean, Tyrel, Amari and Shalaya; great grandchildren, Marquez, Malaysia, Tevion and Jhourne; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, many friends and honorary grandchildren.
