Tennis Wayne Gatewood was born June 9, 1956 in Columbus, Ohio. He departed this life on May 29, 2015 at the age of 58 after a courageous 8 year battle with cancer. He was a 1974 graduate of West High School and an active 1979 alumni of West Virginia University. He was a former employee of Marriott Hotels and Sanese Services. He was a trainer, manager and franchise owner for Donatos Pizza for many years. He reinvented himself as “The Builder,” by developing a signature (STEM) Workshop, the Math and Science of Carpentry which he lead with an iron fist until days before his passing. He is preceded in death by his mother Alberta Gatewood. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 38 years, Dorothy D. Gatewood; children, Kia, Wayne and Kerry Gatewood; adopted children, Edith (Harvey) Richardson, Julian Davis and Le’kisha (Harrison) Graham; grandchildren; Sydni Gatewood and Nathaniel Gatewood Melson; Godchildren, Aaliyah, Jamal and Adam Slappy, Myles and Madison Everett; uncle John (Cynthia) Gatewood; aunts, Annie Mae Davis, Peggy Gatewood, and Katherine Douglas; special cousins, Shirley Taylor, Roslyn Mixon, Denise Ramsey, Scott and Keith (Vonda) Douglas, Joseph (Rachel) Slappy and Anthony (Sharon) Slappy; lifelong friend William White; father Robert (Thelma) Mix; half-brothers, Marvin, Royce (Michelle), Kim (Regina) and Michael (Bridgette) Mix; half-sister Julia Moon; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Memorial service 12 noon, Saturday, June 6, 2015 at The Columbus Bible Way Church, 2660 Rhoads Ave., where his family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the start of service.
