Terence Lee 'Terry' 'Tank' 'Coach' Kizer

November 1, 1962 — July 9, 2014

Terence Lee Kizer, Sr., also known as Terry, Tank, or Coach, was born November 1, 1962 in Columbus, Ohio. At an early age, Terry became a baptized member of Antioch Baptist Church, where he participated in various ministries during his more than forty years of discipleship. Most recently, he served as vice chair of the Roberta Ragland Scholarship Fund. Terry attended Mifflin High School and graduated from Beechcroft High School. He was a proud alumnus of West Virginia State College, where he was initiated into the Tau Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. Terence served in the United States Army and, in October 1989, was honorably discharged at the rank of First Lieutenant. Terence had a passion for coaching and mentoring young people which afforded him the opportunity to touch the lives of countless students, not only in his professional career but through his community outreach as well. For over twenty years, Terence was employed as an educator and basketball coach at Sonshine Christian Academy. In recent years, he served as a substitute teacher in the Columbus City Schools. He led many football teams as a manager and coach for the Columbus Raiders Youth Organization, and also worked with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and various AAU teams. In addition to his coaching efforts, there were numerous ways in which Terence positively touched the lives of others - whether as an active member of the Columbus Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, or by promoting organ donation through Lifeline of Ohio. On Wednesday, July 9, 2014, Terence Lee Kizer, Sr. was called from labor to reward while at The Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio. He was predeceased by his fathers, Edward Kizer, Jr. and Edward Young, his maternal and paternal grandparents, nephew Talon Kizer, and father-in-law Conrad Frederick. Those who remain to cherish memories of Terence include his wife of 26 years, Idalia Kizer; son Terence Kizer, Jr.; daughter Jazmin Kizer; grandson Jayden Kizer; mother Janice Young; sisters, Deborah (Ken) Watson and Charlotte Kizer; brothers, Keith Kizer, Edward Young and Jeff Young; special aunt, Alva Reeves; nephews, Keith Kizer, Jr., Dominique Kizer, and Xavier Frederick; nieces, Stephanie Ware, Lynetta Kizer and Quiana Kizer, and Makayla Frederick; great nieces, Jayda Kizer and Trinity Kizer; goddaughter Tyasiah Walker; mother--in-law Norma Frederick; father-in-law Ricardo (Charlene) Brown; brothers-in-law, Gregory (Natasha) Frederick and Rico Brown; sister-in-law Taysha Brown; and a host of treasured relatives and special friends too numerous to name individually. Terence loved his family and we love him. We miss his physical presence tremendously, but we know he loved and knew the Lord and is resting peacefully in His arms.
