Thelma Williams Huston was born on October 31, 1926 in Toledo, Ohio to Pearl and James Williams. She was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church, and St. Paul Baptist Church, in Toledo, Ohio. She joined the assembly of believers at Second Baptist in Warren, Ohio, and the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Ecorse, Michigan and the Second Baptist Church in Columbus, Ohio. She married Richard Allen Huston Sr. in 1949 and was widowed in 2002. Thelma and Richard have two sons, Richard Allen Huston, Jr. and William Lloyd Huston, Sr. She has two daughters-in-law, Dorothy Williams Huston and Sheryl Smith Huston; two granddaughters, Patrice Huston Johnson, Mary Katherine Huston; two grandsons, William Huston, Jr. and James Huston; one great-grandson, Tyler Johnson. She attended Toledo Public schools and earned an Education degree from the University of Toledo in 1948.Thelma taught school in Toledo, Ohio, Warren, Ohio, Taylor, Michigan and Columbus, Ohio. She did further studies at the University of Michigan, University of Toledo, Indiana-Purdue University, Youngstown University, University of Detroit and Eastern Michigan University. Thelma was a professional Teacher and administrator. Organizations Thelma belonged to: Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.; NEA, OEA,TEA, American Federation of Teachers, YMCA Board of Directors in Wyandotte, Michigan; Family and Neighborhood Services in Detroit, Michigan, The Lunch Bunch in Columbus, Ohio, and the King Center Women's Service Board. She was a leader in Bible Study Fellowship (BSF). Thelma Williams Huston and her husband, Dr. Richard Allen Huston Sr., started the Columbus Laboratory School.
