Thomas Anthony 'Tony' 'Too Tall' Carmichael

April 7, 1958 — September 9, 2016

Thomas A. Carmichael was born April 7, 1958 to Joseph T. and Floreese Carmichael. He was known to close family and friends as “Tony.” He accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church for over 50 years. He graduated from Eastmoor High School in 1976. There he was an athlete, and was known as “Too Tall Carmichael, Big Dog, TC and the Gentle Giant” During his high school days he also showed his determination by rising to the level of Eagle Scout. He was at athlete where his size dominated the playing field. He stood where he was intimidating or menacing for he was a tower of a man as his classmates described him. He was the one who loved to play all the sports. One of his favorite awards was the shoe statue. He was Preceded in death by his parents, sister Felecia Carmichael, Grandmothers Emma Mason and Nannie Mae Saunders, Grandfathers George Saunders John Saunders, Sister-in-Law Beverly Ann Carmichael, Aunts Leeverta Locket, Dorothy Muse, Alma Jackson, Geneva Sparrow, Pearl Carter, Bessie Woodford, and Emma Bell, Uncles Henry Saunders, William Saunders, Fred Saunders, Robert (Jackie) Saunders, Albert Carmichael, Paul Carmichael Sr. and James Mason Sr., along with many Cousins and close friends. Those that knew him knew he had a love of numbers and Mathematics; thus he was a like a “Bank” and a ‘Wiz’ with numbers. He worked for the State of Ohio for 29 ½ years until his illness compelled him to retire. After retirement he continued to help people with taxes and served as a financial advisor to many, including his surviving sister Melanie. He was known to produce a low growl at times and when you heard the “grrr,” it was time to listen to his sound advice. It was then that you knew, (the grrr was deep but never loud) that it was time to listen to the knowledge he provided as he had researched it ahead of time. He was also a diehard sports fan. He used Social media and the phone to get the sports scores whenever someone was playing. He was a true Buckeye fan and could be counted on for a loud “O-H! Or “Who Dey” for his Bengals. Also, we cannot forget his “unofficial office.” He went to the White Castle with his Dad as a youth and it became a lifelong sojourn to a forum where the events of the day were discussed, debated, and disseminated by the friends he met there. The coffee club was making sure everything on today’s topic was discussed and facts only were given and don’t try to pull the wool over no one’s eyes. For Carmichael even learned how to work on cars from this office something he always wanted to do. After retirement he thought that he would be giving up technology, however, he joined the ranks of Social media. He changed his life style and kept up with the world. He reconnected with friends and family and enjoyed sharing good jokes. He also made sure that his “shoes went out daily” and he did not miss a chance to enjoy a good meal. He traveled and then posted his many adventures. There were many sightings of the “Big Dog!” He was a gentleman who was kind and had a caring disposition. He is survived by Brother Joseph T. Jr., Sister Melanie L. Carmichael, Aunt Carol Humphrey, Uncle Roland Saunders, nieces, Chante and Alisha, nephew Michael Shane, many Cousins, special friends, and all the children that he worked with along the way. Because of his faith in GOD, he put all things into HIS hands. He kept everyone updated on his medical status. His final post was “I have consulted with the doctors and they have given me only weeks to live. There is nothing else that they can do as my heart will not take anymore. Whatever you have done, thank you from the bottom of my heart. I have put it into GOD’S hands. God’s blessing to all.” As his sister Melanie left on the night of September 9, 2016, his final words were “Thank you and Good night…” He wanted to walk out the way he came in and was determined to do that; however, God had another plan. As the “Growler” he was quiet, but he had to make some noise, so he had to do CODE BLUE!!! He received his wings and has gone to meet his family and friends on the other side. Some have asked to leave a seat beside him so we can cheat off yours answers again! But the major answer was he had faith in God and put it in his hands and that’s how he lived his life. To all, the bank is closed…
