Tion Richard Mcgowan

TION RICHARD MCGOWAN, age forty-two, passed away Friday, December 31, 2021, at his residence in Columbus, Ohio. Tion was born on Friday, May 18, 1979, to Clarence R. Johnson and Linda McGowan. Those that are left to cherish his memories are his mother, Linda McGowan; son, Tion Marshawn Benjamin; daughter, Nevaeh Lashon Williams, grandson, Kristian Markell Newton-Benjamin; sister, Tanya McGowan; step-sister, Anita Penson; uncles, Vincent (Peggy) McGowan, Rodney (Robin) McGowan, and Bruce McGowan; his business partner and her headache of seventeen years, Eboni L. Eiland; niece, Savannah McGowan; goddaughter, Deojane Clanton; best friend, Ronald “Nute” Kellem; his four legged best friend, Belphre; a host of cousins, other family members, and loving friends. Tion will be remembered for the work he accomplished throughout Columbus, Ohio, as 360 Builders LLC, creating one-of-kind custom homes and making a legacy of forever homes that will be seen for generations to come. Tion will also be remembered for his personality but more so, his sarcastic trash talking, all while laughing and smiling. Better yet, rapping his favorite song, not knowing any of the words. Tion would call you, out of the blue, to ruffle your feathers, and call back ten minutes later, like nothing ever happened. He called this “Putting the Cables to You.” With his contagious smile, Tion could encourage, motivate, and elevate you to your highest good. Because he was a modest man and maybe even a minimalist, you could always count on Tion to show up in his infamous uniform, all black and probably with a few food stains (LOL). Material things did not matter to him. Tion was known as “The Black Gentleman” and loved History and Economics. He could go on for days discussing money and the next great thing to invest in. Tion’s loss is great for all of us. However, he would not want you to mourn or grieve over his death, but to use it as a strength to push you into your greatness. A wise man, Aaron Hawthorne, told Tion almost twenty years ago . . . “Do not let the night fall and you don’t have a plan before the sun rises” and “There is always someone on a plane ready to take your place.” Tion lived by this philosophy. He never allowed his eyes to divert from the task at hand and he was always the best at whatever he did in life. Without a farewell, you fell asleep, with only memories for us to keep. In life, we loved you dearly. In death, we love you still. You hold a place in our hearts, no one else can ever fill.
