Tommy Lee James, at the age of 95, went home to be with the Lord, Friday March 1, 2024, at home with his family at his side. He was born on May 20, 1928, to Franklin and Alma James in Paris, Texas where the family later moved to Wasco, California. Tommy is one of eleven children, Cedric, Emmanuel, S.F., Doris, Lois, Margie, Bonnie, Billie, Frankie, and Lindsay. Tommy was educated in the Texas and Columbus School system and attended the Ohio State University, and Aenon Bible College.
Tommy retired after 38 years from General Motors, Columbus, Ohio in 1990 and proudly served in the United States Army as a Sergeant First Class.
Tommy was a member of Bethany Baptist Church, Columbus, Ohio for over 53 years where he served as Deacon and Sunday School Teacher for many years. He also attended Living Faith in Columbus for several years before reuniting with his family at Bethany prior to his short illness. Tommy was a God-fearing man who loved to read the Bible and discuss and share God’s word to anyone that would listen.
Tommy is preceded in death by his parents Franklin and Alma James and siblings, Cedric, S.F., Emmanuel, Billie, Doris, and Lois.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 63 years, Ammer James, daughter, Karen Denise Fullerton; sons, Demarco Ray James (Mildred), Kenneth Lee James, Keith Lee James, Kevin Andre James (Vivian); granddaughters Meghan Elizabeth James, Chantelle Fullerton (Gary), Takeiciou Bennett (Darren), Taylor James; grandsons Shawn Demarco Ray James Jr., Jonathan Paul James (Grace), Hugh Leslie Fullerton Jr (Jodi), Gareth Patrick Fullerton (Victoria), Kenneth James Jr, and Keith James Jr; 15 Great-Grandchildren; Sisters, Margie Pitchford, Frankie James; Brothers Bonnie James (Yang Shim Chang), and Lindsay James; Host of extended family members and loving friends, and special and loving friend Kenny Williams.
Friends may call after 11:00 a.m. at Bethany Baptist Church, 959 Bulen Avenue, Columbus, Ohio 43206, Monday, March 11, 2024. Family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 12:00 p.m. Pastor Jonathan W. Bradford, Sr. Officiating. Arrangements entrusted to Diehl-Whittaker Funeral Service, 1370 E Main St, Columbus, OH 43205. Burial Monday, March 11, 2024, at Glen Rest Memorial Estate.
