Tonya Smith

On Wednesday, May 1st, 1957 in Columbus, Ohio, unforgettable sister, aunt, cousin and so much more, Tonya Michelle Smith was born. She departed from this earth on February 19th, 2024. She was surrounded and supported by her loving family members and caregivers during the last days of her life.

Tonya was a proud alumna of East High School, graduating in the class of 1976, and later pursued her education at Central State University. A true aficionado of Jazz, she cherished her extensive collection of records, finding solace and joy in its melodic embrace. Her culinary talents were renowned, with her potato salad being a beloved signature dish among family and friends. An avid trivia enthusiast, Tonya found delight in testing her knowledge, often tuning in to watch Jeopardy with enthusiasm. While her absence leaves a profound void, we take comfort in knowing that she has found peace in heaven's embrace.

Tonya is preceded in death by her parents, Curtis & Darryl Smith; uncles, Robert “Bobby” Moore & Douglas Payne Jr.; aunt, Delorse Payne and niece, Faith Reaves. She is survived by sisters: Crystal Banks (Thomas), Timiko Walker (Chad), Dr. Pamela Reaves (Sid), and Curi Smith; uncle: William “Billy” Moore; sister-cousin: Kimberly Jennings; nieces and nephews: Raven & Chase Walker, Paige Smith(Vaughn), and Hannah & Isaiah Reaves; as well as a host of great-nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
