Toria Lee Bennett, 67, peacefully entered eternal rest in the loving embrace of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Wednesday, June 19, 2024. Born on July 23, 1956, in Columbus, Ohio to Gene Paul Sr. and Georgia Lorraine Bennett, Toria attended Columbus Public Schools and graduated from North High School. She furthered her education at Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa.
Known affectionately as Tweety, Toria embraced this nickname with joy. Perhaps it originated from her childhood, where her hair resembled Tweety Bird's tuft, often exclaiming, "I thought I saw a Putty Tat." She cherished wearing her Tweety Bird t-shirts.
Toria dedicated herself to serving her community and church throughout her life. She taught Sunday School at Grace New Covenant and lovingly cared for her mother after retiring from her 23-year career with the City of Columbus. Her passions included cooking—especially frying chicken, fish, and barbecuing—and singing while doing household chores.
Toria's spiritual journey led her from the Church of Christ of Apostolic Faith to Southeast Apostolic Mission, where she accepted Christ under Elder Walter G. Webster's leadership. She later became an integral member of Redeemer South and eventually found her church home at Grace New Covenant Worship Center. She had a deep love for her church, its worship, and her pastor. Her faithfulness shone through her service in church beautification, kitchen duties, and assisting with children's programs.
Her infectious laugh and love for family were unmistakable traits. She thrived on “lively debates”—just don't get on her bad side! Yet, after the dust settled, she had a remarkable way of lovingly restoring relationships.
Preceded in death by her parents, Gene Paul Bennett Sr. and Georgia Lorraine Bennett, and cousin/sister Gwendolyn Shepard. Toria is survived by her sons Anthony (Collette), Andre (Amanda), grandchildren, Justus, Aubrielle, Ricole, Envyi, Raijien, Anthony Jr., great-grandchildren Sage, Seven, and Onyx Bennett, brothers Gene Paul Jr. (Desma), Jeffrey Clayton (Linda), David Andre (Dione), uncle Frank (Maggie) Wade, aunt Laverne Ford, special cousins Jacqueline Abbington-Bing, Barbara Jean Westbrook, Brenda Mitchell, Rosemary Wade, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of adopted children and friends.
Toria Lee Bennett will be deeply missed and forever cherished for her unwavering faith, loving spirit, and dedication to her family and community.
