Valerie Jones

October 15, 1951 — March 9, 2023

Valerie Charline Landrum Jones was born October 15, 1951, and died March 9, 2023. She was predeceased by parents George Landrum and Lillian Neal Landrum, son Kinte A. Jones, three nieces including Kim Landrum Mabins, Jehdeiah McKinney, and two nephews, and close friend Dorothy Harmon.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years Rodney L. Jones, and son Kyle S. Jones, siblings Yvonne Landrum McKinney, Darryl (Linda) Landrum, Denise Landrum Jones, Lamont (Moneika) Landrum and many nieces and nephews, and other relatives including twin cousin, Freddie (Beverly) Neal and aunt, Ruth Neal Dixon, sister-in-law Karla (Ron) Chapman, brothers-in-law Bradford (Jacquie) Jones, Eric Jones, daughter-in-law Jennifer Jones and Marbury family, cousin-in-law and close friend, Dawna (George) Cox, special longtime friends, Gloria (Harold) Beatty, Nettie Cephas, Sharon Williamson, Mary Harris, Renee (Benjamin) Crumpler and spiritual daughter Rolanda (Roshad) Gomer.

Val attended Mumford High School in Detroit, Michigan and graduated in 1969. On July 12, 1968 she was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and shortly after graduation from high school she became a full-time preacher of God’s Kingdom, a career that was interrupted by raising a family and health challenges. However, she returned to it in 2006 and continued until her health failed.

She loved living in the city of Detroit on the small-town street of Parkside. She had many happy memories with her siblings which included a number of adventures led by her older brother. Val was a natural athlete. She enjoyed running track, playing basketball, and roller skating. She loved listening to music and dancing. On July 20, 1970, at Tiger Stadium she met the man that would become her husband. They married on September 18, 1971.

Val worked a variety of jobs, including being a teacher’s aide and a seasonal tax clerk for the state of Ohio to help support her family. She was a gregarious and generous person that enjoyed helping others and preaching the good news of God’s Kingdom. She was a supportive wife, and a woman of faith, who dearly loved her family and friends and demonstrated it in practical ways. She will be sorely missed.

However, she was certain that God’s government would bring the dead back to life and that this earth would become the paradise that He intended from the beginning.
