Venola Myers

July 14, 1925 — March 24, 2021

The life of Venola Meyers began on July 14, 1925 in Brent, Alabama and the celebration of her life began on Wednesday March 24th, 2021. She was born to the late Rev. William Miller and the late Mealie Duff Miller. Venola received a rich upbringing built on a firm foundation in Christ. Venola's father, Rev. Miller was not only a minister, but he was also an entrepreneur. He was a self-made man, who owned a local grocery store during an era where African Americans were not considered equal. He planted the seed of education in each of his children to ensure they were prepared to serve their community and live a quality life. Venola was reared and educated within the Bibb County School System (Alabama). Her father stressed that being a teacher was one of the most noble professions. Venola would later complete her formal education at the Alabama State Teachers College, currently known as The Alabama State University (Montgomery, Alabama). She married George Davis Craig and to this union three children would be born: William Craig (Columbus, Ohio), Milton Eddie Craig (deceased) and Patricia (Elverie)Watford (Columbus, Ohio). Venola began her teaching career within the Bibb County School System (Alabama). She later moved to Ohio where she continued her teaching career within the Urbana City School system and the Columbus City Public School system. Teaching and education were her passion. Venola held a deep affection for her students, and she was devoted to their growth. For more than 40 years she dedicated her life to the field of education. Upon her retirement she remained committed to educating children and young adults through private tutoring, GED preparation and after school programs. She was a faithful member of Central Seventh Day Adventist Church, where she served as a former Sabbath School Superintendent. Venola was also a dedicated member of several community organizations including the Federated Kings Daughters of Columbus being one of her most beloved organizations. Venola worked and served within the church and her community as a testament to her faith and commitment to excellence. She was preceded in death by a loving son, Milton Eddie Craig and her six siblings whom she loved and shared a close relation with, Lorenza (Fred) Wilson, Victoria Clark, Vaida (Hammett) Lilly, Climmy (Katherine) Miller, Wiley Miller, and Bernice Miller. She is survived by her children who remained faithful by her side until her last breath: William Craig, Patricia Watford, and a beloved son in law, Elverie Watford all of Columbus, Ohio; grandchildren, C. Nichole ( Robert) Thompson, Michael (Whitney) Craig, Kristi ( LeDon) Moses and Felicia Craig; great-grandchildren, Bradley Williams, Kennedy Thompson, Kassidy Thompson, Londyn Moses and Sloan Craig; and a host of devoted family and friends.
