Vera Garner Bunch was born September 23, 1920 in Falkville, AL to Walter V. and Jannie Lucinda Turner Garner. She was married to Leroy Bunch of Columbus, OH. Vera loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and was often heard sharing her faith. She was a faithful member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Columbus, OH. Vera attended Columbus Community College where she received a professional certificate to work as a nursing assistant in the Columbus State School for twenty-five years. For recreation, she enjoyed swimming, fishing, boat riding, classical and gospel music, and gardening. Vera loved her family and, enjoyed spending time with them. She traveled to be with family for child births, birthdays, graduations, weddings, holidays, and family reunions. She was so proud of everyone’s educational accomplishments. Vera leaves us with an abundance of fond memories and happy times. Vera was a good Christian woman and this was evident when she proudly became head of household to Robin Shaw and her young daughter, Billina. Because of Vera’s nurturing spirit, Billina received her undergraduate degree from Yale and went on to graduate from The University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. On Thursday, August 29, 2013, the Lord called Vera to her eternal rest. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Jannie Garner, four brothers, Virgil Garner, Walter V. Garner, Clyde Garner and Horace Garner, her twin sister, Era (Garner) Sanford, and her nephew Gerry Garner. She is survived by her nieces and nephews: Percy Garner, Christine Tribble-Jackson, Phyllis Garner Ferman, Jannie Billingsley, Clyde Poignard, Virgil E. Garner, David Garner, and Tracy Jenkins; many great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends. Vera was a strong and independent woman who will be greatly missed. She was loved, respected and admired. She professed her hope in Christ at a very young age, and this was emulated though out her life. At the end of her journey, she will always be remembered as a strong, proud, and independent Christian woman. The family wishes to thank everyone for their kind expressions of sympathy shown during this time of bereavement. May the Lord continue to richly bless you. Thank You, The Family
