Virginia Lee Kirk Bailey passed away July 17, 2023, at the age of 84.
She was born to the late James and Elizabeth B. Kirk in Mount Olivet, Kentucky.
She attended school in the Maysville area and graduated from May's Lick High School and attended the University of Cincinnati,
Virginia retired from Nationwide Insurance in 2001, after serving as the Lending Manager of Nationwide Federal Credit Union.
Wanting no more office work she joined the Lazarus household in Bexley as a "Girl Friday" in 2002 and worked there for 21 years.
Virginia studied piano for several years and enjoyed playing hymns and gospel music.
Virginia accepted Christ at an early age and started playing for the junior choir at Second Baptist Church, May's Lick.
She went to play for and direct many church choirs in Kentucky, West Virginia and Ohio.
In the late 1970's she organized and directed the Davis Singers, an interdenominational choir composed of 23 members from seven churches in the Tri-State area of Ashland, Ironton and Huntington. They traveled many miles and were blessed to sing in Buffalo, New York, Dallas, Texas and West Memphis, Arkansas.
On June 10, 2012, Virginia joined the Hosack Street Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. Jonathan Morehead, where she remained a dedicated member.
Virginia considered herself the gypsy of her family having lived in Kentucky, Denver, Colorado, Ironton, Ohio, West Virginia, Dallas, Texas and Canton, Ohio.
Whether moving to a new city or transitioning life's seasons she held fast to her two favorite songs, He Touched Me and Through it All.
She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Vinia Kirk and her uncle, Jim Kirk, who were instrumental in her upbringing. Her sister Joan McDonald also preceded her in death.
Virginia is survived by her son, Stephen (Leigh) Jones; grandsons, Benjamin and Maxwell Jones; stepsons, Shawn (Kim) Bailey and Jason (Monique) Bailey; one sister, Brenda Johnson of Dallas, Texas; one brother, Richard (Jennie) Kirk of Maysville; several cousins, nieces, and nephews; three step-grandsons and one step-granddaughter.
A visitation will be held from 1:00PM - 2:00PM Tuesday, July 25, 2023, in the chapel of Diehl-Whittaker Funeral Service, 720 East Long Street, Columbus, Ohio, 43203.
