Vivian (Taylor) Turner, loving daughter of the late Manuel Taylor and Amelia Owens Taylor, was born on December 11, 1935 in Brooklyn, New York. Vivian graduated from Homemaking High School in 1953 where she received her diploma in Home Economics. She was the first African-American typist that was hired by Northern Insurance Company New York in 1956. She later entered into the financial/banking industry until she retired from working in 1993. She married the love of her life, Allen Turner, on June 28, 1958. Their union was blessed with one child, Gail. She accepted Christ as her personal savior at a young age and united with Cornerstone Baptist Church and continued to serve the Lord as a member of Salem Missionary Baptist Church until she and Allen moved to Columbus, Ohio in October 1990. Vivian loved to sew and cook for her family and friends. She was an active member of Faith Ministries, where she served on the Bereavement Committee and sang with the Senior Choir which was near and dear to her heart. She was a familiar face and a friend to many who loved and knew her. We were so blessed that God honored us with her presence and she was a true measure of the Christian faith. She always had a kind and encouraging word when your spirit was down. She would make personalized prayer books in which she would include handpicked scriptures especially for your needs. She also loved to send you a card to let you know that she was thinking about you or to give you encouragement. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Homer Taylor, and stepson James Turner. Left to cherish her memory and mourn her passing are her husband of 53 years, Allen; her daughter Gail; her grandchildren Adia and Damani; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors and friends.
