Walter G. Webster

April 13, 1940 — July 27, 2017

Pastor Walter G. Webster, 77, teacher, beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, cousin, uncle, mentor and friend, entered into eternal peace on Thursday, July 27, 2017, at his residence. He was born on April 13, 1940 in Columbus, Ohio. He grew up under the teaching of the late Bishop Karl F. Smith at Church of Christ of the Apostolic Church at the corner of Washington and Donaldson. He was a graduate of East High School, Aenon Bible College, and the University of Youngstown. After graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Christian Education from Aenon Bible College in 1961, he married Henrietta Elizabeth Hull and moved to Akron, OH to pursue ministry. He studied under the late Dean Henry I. Perry and and served an apprenticeship under the late Bishop Francis L. Smith. He later moved to Warren, OH to pastor at Apostolic Faith Church on Colonial Avenue until finally moving his family to Columbus. In 1977, he founded Southeast Apostolic Mission, where he served as pastor until 2014, at which time his health prevented him from continuing in full-time ministry. In 1979, the church served as home to the Sunshine Christian Academy, a Christian-based school, founded by the late Deborah Jackson. Later outgrowing the facility, the school moved to another location. Inspired, Pastor Webster founded Southeast Christian Academy. In 1980, the SEARCH television broadcast aired on WCMH-NBC4. Beginning as a religious talk show, the format soon changed, providing more in-depth teaching to better understand communion with God. During this time, Pastor Webster was recognized as a comprehensive teaching pastor and conducted weekly bible classes in Columbus and surrounding areas. After 18 years on television, SEARCH began broadcasting on WRFD for a short period of time. Pastor Webster is survived by his loving wife, Marietta, daughter Elizabeth, sons, Walter III (Bud), Karl, John, and Michael; step-daughters Lanna-Marie (Phillip) Chatman, and Lanita (Solomon) Woods, grandchildren John, Jr., Leah, Lanna-Marie (“Little Lady”), Solomon III, and Laila; brothers Winfield Webster, Rufus Jones III,,step brother Franklin Jones, step sister Jo Ann Brown (Sissy) and beloved niece, Sheila Harshaw. He is preceded in death by his sister, Odessa Jackson, mother, Maude Elizabeth Jones, stepfather Rufus Jones, Jr., and father, Walter G. Webster, Sr. Pastor Webster served as Pastor of Southeast Apostolic Mission from 1979 to 2014, which is now named Kingdom Ministries United. He will be deeply missed by those he pastored, taught and mentored in Akron, Warren, and Columbus OH. Pastor Webster will probably be best remembered as a Bible scholar and teacher, always gentle, soft-spoken, with the heart of a shepherd, and his life could be best characterized by ‘he went about doing good.’ Unkind words were never allowed to be a part of his mindset, both in and out of the pulpit. To know him . . . was to love him. It was obvious to everyone who knew him that Jesus was truly the center of his joy. Flowers are welcomed.
