Warnell (O'Neal) Davis

Warnell O’Neal Davis was born Lucinda O’Neal on May 31, 1923, in Barnesville, Georgia, to the late Daisy Kelly and the late Ulyse O’Neal. Lucinda was brought to Columbus, Ohio, through a dear friend named Alma in 1944. Alma secured her train passage through a local family who gave her a place of employment as a live in Maid. Shortly after arriving in Columbus, Ohio, Lucinda met her husband, the late Dave Davis, Sr., and they married on January 23, 1946. This union was blessed with four children; three sons and one daughter. Lucinda became a Christian homemaker, mother, and helpmate. She never liked the name Lucinda; so, in 1985, she legally changed her name to Warnell. She completed her education in the Columbus Public School system Evening Adult Education Division. She joined with Union Grove Baptist Church in 1964. Although she was brought up in the church, and was in fellowship every Sunday, she said she did not truly receive and commit herself to Christ until 1985. Filled with the Holy Spirit’s gift of service, she volunteered in the church and, over the years, served as President of the Usher Board, President of the Nursing Corp. and President of the Scholarship Club at Union Grove Baptist Church. Her gift of service led her to ecumenical work where she volunteered with other churches and denominations to provide clothing for those in need. Warnell loved to travel. The trip of her lifetime was her tour of Israel. On August 16, 2017, at the age of 94, Warnell was called to her eternal rest while at home in her Columbus residence. Those who remain to cherish her precious memories include her four children, Dave Davis, Jr. (Darlene), Elaine Fennell (Alton), Donald Davis (Janice), and Daryl Davis; her sisters, Lettie Lowry and Sarah Smith, both of Columbus, Ohio; her brother George O’Neal of Griffin, Georgia; four grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
