Wayne Mcdearmon

Wayne Lee McDearmon was born May 18, 1947 in Lynchburg, Virginia; he is preceded in death by parents Joe Wilson and Ethel McDearmon and Brother Pete McDearmon.


Wayne passed away peacefully at Taylor Springs Health Campus in Gahanna, Ohio on December 3, 2023.


Wayne is survived by his beautiful wife, Barbara Carroll Hughes-McDearmon of thirty years of marriage; 13 children, Dawayne McDearmon, Shuwn McDearmon, Raquel Monique McDearmon and Dainelle Hayes; stepchildren, Leonard R. Milner, Ronald Milner, Eugene Milner Sr, Belinda Washington, Lenore Lee, Leo Peoples, (nephew) Guy Marbury Jr; Lamont Martin Sr, Lynda D. Hughes and Louisa Hughes; 15 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren. A host of nephews and nieces and a special cousin Reverend Elsie McDearmon Curl and her daughter Carla Jude.


Wayne had an infectious smile that would “light” up the room. He was a graduate of East High School, Columbus, Ohio. Wayne truly enjoyed working, even in his leisure time at home and in community helping and teaching others how to repair, fix and building things. Wayne worked self-employed for the Nurse Association for twenty-two years; in addition, navigating a career at The Ohio State University where he retired this year May 2023 with thirty-four years of service. During his tenure at OSU, Wayne was promoted to various positions, starting as a custodian, secondly as a maintenance technician and finally a plumber. He was a dedicated and faithful employee and his co-workers enjoyed working with him. He spent his free time keeping an immaculate lawn where he won numerous awards from the Berwick Homeowners Association for the best kept lawn. Wayne had a love for cars and trucks and always made sure his wife drove a new car; and playing the keyboard he taught himself how to play. Wayne would go to his quite place to start playing the keyboard and after a while you would hear him singing along as he played the keyboard.


His greatest accomplished was when he gave his life to Jesus Christ. Wayne was a member of Apostolic Light House Temple Church for 10 years, where he also served on the Usher Board. We will always carry your memory in our hearts…
