Willa Marie Winton Lumpkin, age 93, Sunrise July 24, 1928 and Sunset September 15, 2021. Until her health began to fail, she lived on 20th avenue in the Linden area for over 50 years. Along with her late husband Clarence Lumpkin of 72 years, she was active in strengthening the Linden community and protecting its institution. Willa began her professional life as the first black cashier for The Kroger Co. She advanced to a management position and retired after 25 years. Willa is preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Clarence. Left to cherish her memory are her three children, Carolyn Bethel, Linda Kent and Douglas (Karrie) Lumpkin; five grandchildren, Jason (Anna) Kent, Kniaka Bethel, Kedada (Lorenzo) Thompkins, Douglas (Monique) Lumpkin and Jamil Hester; sister, Bobbie Hunt; brother, Richard Winton; six great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives, family and friends.
