William Craig Flowers, born April 19, 1946 in Columbus, OH, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at OSU-East Hospital. He had overcome prostate cancer and continued battling Alzheimer’s disease for the past seven years at Laurels Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Hilliard, OH. Affectionately known by family as “Billy”, he attended St. Cyprian, Eastwood Elementary, Franklin Jr. High, East High School and The Ohio State University. He received a B.S. in Business Operations from DeVry Institute of Technology. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1964-1968 and received an honorable discharge. A lifelong lover of theatrics and cameras, he played in the Stage Corporation’s performance of “Jazzy Broadway” (King Arts Center) and “Presenting the Stage Corporation” (Capital University). He later established his own camera business, “Have Camera, Will Travel”, on East Long Street. Bill served as the lead photographer for WBNS-TV, Columbus, OH from 1973 to 1976. He was responsible for news gathering and putting together the 11:00 PM news and footage for the noon news. He was also employed by the State of Ohio, Dept. of Development, as the Dept.’s Photographer. He was in charge of photography and audio-visual communications for the Governor’s Office, Travel and Tourism, International Trade, and Industrial Development. After his graduation from DeVry, Bill worked for the Defense Message Systems (DMS) Comptroller at Regional Operations Security Center at DSCC, Columbus, OH. He provided computer communication assistance for the GLS sub-contractor. He is preceded in death by parents, William B. and Daisy M. Flowers; brother, Robert H. Flowers and sister, Beverly S. Flowers. He leaves to cherish his memories, a loving daughter, April Thornton (Raleigh, NC); sisters, Dr. Melzia Flowers, Southfield, MI; Dr. Hazel Flowers, Alice (Jack Marchbanks) Flowers of Columbus, OH; grandchildren, Jaaron Fields, Marc Thornton II, Sydney Thornton and Sierra Thornton, Raleigh, NC, Aunts: Eva (John) Bell, Birmingham, AL and Marie Jones, Decatur, GA; Niece, Belynne Poore, Southfield, MI, Nephew, Tarek Ibrahim, Columbus, OH; and his oldest cousin, Freddie C. (Rock) Flowers, Washington Court House, OH and many loving relatives and friends.
