William Moss Ii

February 4, 1952 — November 27, 2010

William King Moss II, aka Bill Moss, aka Father God, died suddenly of a heart attack at age 58 in his home early in the morning on Saturday, November 27, 2010. He was born to William King Moss, Sr. and Mary Ruth Moss on February 4, 1952 in Jamaica, New York and mourned both of their deaths deeply. He was one of the Moss Five children who blessed many congregations with their talent, harmony and originality. He was heartbroken about the death of his brother Martin Moss, the accomplished actor/musician, in 2002. He is survived by siblings Robert Moss, the composer-pianist, Brenda Moss, the bella vocalist, and Rita Louey Moss, the eternal performer. Bill Moss, who grew up in a rough neighborhood, was the only one of his group of childhood friends to escape death in the streets or incarceration. In 1969, William King Moss II enlisted in the US Army and served honorably for 2 years. He was honorably discharged in 1971 only to meet the love of his life Helen Moss shortly after. They married on April 27, 1974 and lived in Hollis, Queens where he began his nursing career. They lived in Queens until their move to Brentwood, Long Island in 1977. Bill Moss raised a family in Brentwood alongside Helen for 29 years. They had two children, William King Moss III (Harvard graduate) and Tanya Ruth Moss (Hartford and NYU graduate) who both earned their masters degrees in Education. Bill coached boxing for more than a decade, coaching his son Billy and several others to State and National titles. He also enrolled Tanya in track and field and was so proud to watch her become the 6th grade Junior Olympics Champion of Brentwood in 1991. An avid self-starter, Bill started and coached the Brentwood Bombers boxing team and produced a boxing match at the Sheraton Hotel. He also was the founder of Father God Cinema Productions, a one-man stop shop of media and entertainment (recording studio, karaoke DJ, videography, and of course CD production). In the 1990s, Bill Moss found God anew and became a minister and pastor of Cornerstone Chruch of God in Christ. Many say that his best years were when he was involved in the ministry. In the late 1990s, Bill retired from nursing. Father God, with his love of hip-hop, later started Lyrical Combat Federation of rhyme fighting as an outlet for talented rap artists and beat poets to express their gift and sharpen their skills. Father God will be forever known as an old school rap artist, but he will more importantly be remembered as a counselor, advisor, mentor and friend. He changed lives. Bill Moss died the dedicated father of and is survived by William King Moss III and Tanya Ruth (Moss) Chanoine and their mother Helen Moss. He put everything into his children. He is also survived by his granddaughter Taylor Chanoine, her father Hudson Chanoine, his siblings Robert Moss, Brenda Moss and Rita Moss, his oldest nephew Glenn Moss his wife and children Tasha Moss, Glenn Moss Jr., Tiara Moss, Treasure Moss and Tahlia Moss, his only neice Maude (Moss) Turner her husband and daughter Erskine Turner and Mariah Turner, his youngest nephew Jacob (Moss) Brown, his god-father and uncle Bob McGhee, his aunt Sarah Butler, his uncle Letonya Moss, his housemates Todd Blunt and Ed Jennings, and a host of loving uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.
