Willie Edmond Betts, Jr. was born January 4, 1951, to Mary Lee and Willie E. Betts, Sr., in Welch, West Virginia. He attended school in McDowell County and graduated from Northfork High School in 1970. He also attended First Baptist Church in Northfork. After graduating, Billy moved to Harlem, New York, and married the former Brenda Mathews. They had one daughter. In 1974, he relocated to Columbus, Ohio, where he was employed at United MCGill. Over the years, Willie made many friends and acquaintances, many of which called him “Billy”. He was well known for his no-nonsense personality, great sense of style, and his love of music and dance. Billy departed this life on July 29, 2014. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Sylvia Kay Betts Barnett. He is survived by his daughter, Catina Betts of Columbus, Ohio; sister, Carolyn Betts, and brother, Danny Betts, both of Charlotte, North Carolina; nephews, Michael, Maurice, both of Charlotte, and Timothy of Rheinland-Pfatz, Germany; niece, Shirley Betts Little of Charlotte; great nieces and –nephews, Shawntee, Clarissa, Wilford, Alex, Danny Jr., Deon, and Cherelle; special friends, Jimmy Phillips and Kerry McBride; and a host of other relatives and friends.
