Wortise Slappy

January 9, 1949 — April 7, 2018

A Giving Heart On Saturday, April 7, 2018 at the age of 69, Wortise Lee Slappy Corroll, went home to be with the Lord. Predeceased by her parents The late Rev. Joseph and Ida Slappy, brother John Slappy and Sisters Margret Fisher and Loretta Slappy. Ms. Wortise was born Jan 9th, 1949 in Cincinnati, Ohio, she was the 6th of 11 children and the eldest living sister of the Slappy Family of Columbus, Ohio. Her parents named her Wortise, but she decided she would be called WOR- TISE, many of her close friends called her TC. Wortise was a graduate of East High School, and was employed by the Columbus Development Center of the State of Ohio for over 25 years, until she retired on disability. She accepted the Lord in her life and became a member of St. Matthew St. Fire Baptized Holiness Church. It was at that time she began to fulfill her call of duty for the Lord when He placed on her heart the desire to begin an outreach ministry, “The Helping Hands Pantry” of St. Matthew Church. Through her strategic planning the church was able to give out food baskets in the community every week. She attended church faithfully until her health kept her from attending services. It was her heart’s desire to see that her grandchildren attended church. We would get the call every Sunday morning, “The children are ready”. One by one they would pile in the car for Sunday school. Wortise loved the Lord and the church. She would never fail to send out delicious snacks for the Sunday school children, and the church to enjoy before morning worship service began. She was not selfish at all and would share without hesitation. Through the love of God, and in loving memory of her mother Mrs. Ida Slappy she continued her outreach ministry and established the organization of Granny’s Angels. Through this ministry she embraced what she had been taught by her parents “It’s is better to give than to receive”. Through her devoted efforts she was able to feed and clothe many needy families in Columbus, Ohio. She worked closely with the neighborhood schools to see that children received warm coats, hats, and gloves during the winter season. Her home was a haven for young mothers that needed child care. Time and time again, when you went to visit Sister Wortise she would have another little one, sitting in the high chair. Truly she was a loving Mother, Grandmother, Great-grandmother, Sister, Auntie, Cousin and Friend. Whatever she had, she would freely give to anyone that asked. In April her health began to decline, but she held to her faith. One of her favorite songs was “Walk Around Heaven All Day”. It was on Saturday April 7th, that God reached down and extended his hand and invited his child Sister Wortise, to come walk with him that day. We will truly miss her, but we say thank you Lord for allowing her to be a vital part of our lives. Thank you Wortise for showing us the Love of God and how to love one another. Left to cherish precious memories are her loving family. Son, Leon Sr, grandchildren, Tianna Caldwell, Leon Jr., Tyliah, Tay’Veon Slappy, Kay’Von Bell. Great grandchildren, Daleyah, Myleah Slappy, Paisley Rallings. Brother, Joseph (Lisa) Slappy and Sisters, Alice (Cecil) Williams, Janice Slappy, Ellen (Stephen) Dinkins of Columbus, Ohio; Marion Greenwood of Atlanta, GA and brother, Carl Steven Slappy of Memphis TN. Many nieces, nephews, other relatives and wonderful friends. “Let not your heart be troubled; ye believe in God believe also in me. In my father’s house are many mansions; If it were not so. I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you unto Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.” John 14:1-3 Jesus is a keeper of His Promise!
