Yvonne Rankins was born on August 15th, 1932 to William and Alice Holmes in New Orleans Louisiana. She was married at the age of 21 in 1953 to Lorenzo Rankins. She was educated at Southern University of New Orleans (SUNO) where she received a Bachelor's Degree in Education. Yvonne served as an educator in many ways, professionally as a teacher employed by Jefferson Parish Public schools from 1969 until 1991, also as a piano and voice instructor giving private lessons in her home, and she served as a Sunday School teacher for many years at Westwego COGIC. She was also very active with the church choir serving as an organist, piano player, and choir director. She was loved and greatly appreciated by many of her students and colleagues. Many of whom she mentored and comforted. Yvonne spent the last two years of her career teaching at Maranatha Christian academy until 1993 when she retired to serve as a full-time caretaker for her mother Alice Holmes until she passed in 2003 at the age of 101yrs. Her husband of 51 years died the following year at the age of 83. Yvonne, moved to Columbus Ohio in 2005 to be near her son Lorenzo Anthony Rankins. While residing in senior assisted living, she organized and conducted weekly bible studies until complications with diabetes restricted her. Yvonne's sojourn in this world came to an end on June 12th, 2020. She was just 2 months shy of her 88th birthday. Yvonne was preceded in death by her parents, William and Alice Holmes, her husband Lorenzo Rankins, sister Mildred Butler, and brothers Julius, Alton, Ralph, Alvin, William, and George Holmes. Yvonne is survived by her brother, Rev. Charles Holmes; sons, Lorenzo Anthony Rankins and his wife Tima Rankins, William Holmes, III; also closest to her nieces and nephews, Charles and Christy Holmes, Nathan and Josie Butler, Carolyn Ambrose; and many more relatives and friends.

Beginning at 1:00pm, doors will open for a walk-through viewing with staggered admission of up to 10 people at a time. For the mutual wellness and respect of those present, all visitors are asked to wear an appropriate face covering, apply an alcohol-based hand sanitizer spray upon entry, and maintain proper distancing according to current public health guidelines. We encourage you to utilize Yvonne's memorial celebration wall to send flowers and post an expression of sympathy and support for the family. A receptacle will also be available for on-site collection of sympathy cards and condolence letters.
